Project Title: In Vivo Testing and Characterization of Titanium Dioxide Nanotube Implant Surfaces

Project Abstract:

The overall objective of this project is to investigate the relationship between titanium dioxide nanotube surfaces and bone-implant integration. This proposal links cutting edge nanotube implant surfaces developed in my group at UCSD with the in vivo testing expertise of a leading Bio-Implant Laboratory at Lund University in Sweden. Specific research aims include characterizing the surface topography of the nanotubes along with clinically used implant surfaces, studying the mechanical properties of the bone-implant interface under tensile testing, and histologically evaluating the biological-structure interaction.
