Project Title: Optical Based Portable Device for Screening Oral Cancer
Project Abstract:
Oral cancer is increasingly becoming a health crisis worldwide and there is an urgent need to detect the disease at an early stage to improve patient survival outcome. As a collaborative research between Rice University, MD Anderson Cancer Center and Tata Memorial Center, I propose to develop a screening tool for oral cancer and carry out a clinical study with it in Mumbai, India. This simple, low cost medical device may be useful to detect oral precancer in any regions of the world particularly those where the disease is prevalent.
