Project Title: An Integrated Approach to Immune Pathways via Microarrays and Novel Imaging Techniques

Project Abstract:

This study will integrate data from multiple regulatory levels and show an integrated view of infection from the perspective of lipid metabolism. A large-scale investigation of temporal gene expression in macrophages infected with cytomegalovirus (CMV) has revealed CMV infection triggers the down-regulation of a set of genes responsible for cholesterol biosynthesis. The use of reverse phase protein microarray (RPP) technology in combination with fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) and coherent anti-stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) in CMV infected macrophages will help unravel molecular events and their phenotypic effects during infection.
