Project Title: Mechano-modulation of a Ca2+ Signalling Pathway Controls Chondrocyte Response to Mechanical Loading
Project Abstract:
Mechanical loading plays an essential role in the development of articular cartilage. However, the mechanotransduction pathways that enable chondrocytes to distinguish between loading conditions to activate a range of metabolic events are yet to be elucidated. Intracellular calcium (Ca2+) signaling is a fundamental mechanotransduction component in numerous cell types, but it is unclear whether loading parameters differentially modulate Ca2+ signaling. The proposal will examine the Ca2+ signaling pathway and determine how it is modulated by mechanical loading.
