Project Title: Arterial Elasticity: Histological and Histochemical Analysis
Project Abstract:
Arterial elasticity is of interest to scientists and clinicians due to its association with and prediction of cardiovascular disease. Many constitutive equations have been proposed to characterize the mechanical response of arteries, however few have considered their composition or the complex structural relationship between their components. The proposed research will examine how histological structure affects arterial elasticity, in the hope of providing a broader understanding of the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. It will be supported by the Queen Mary, University of London.
