Project Title: Design of a Collapsible Descending-Aortic Micropump
Project Abstract:
The overall aim of the proposed project is the design of a micropump to be placed in the descending aorta, for the purpose of increasing perfusion to the vital organs of congestive heart failure patients. Drawing from my experiences as a biomedical engineering major at Johns Hopkins University, the project's research goals will be focused on maximizing the efficiency of the pump with physiological and surgical considerations. Specific points of initial research will be designing the magnetic levitation microaxial pump motor and optimizing impeller configuration with the motor/stator.
